NATHM to launch four-star hotel to enhance training
The Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM) has said that is would be launching an 80 room four star hotel on its premises in a provide skill-oriented education to its students.
The NATHM made the announcement at its 39th anniversary celebration on Monday (2068/12/13). The planned hotel will also have four apartments, four suites and two penthouses. It is expected to come into operation by 2013.
Speaking on the occasion, NATHM executive director Prem Raj Joshi said the hotel would help produce more skilled manpower in the hospitality sector that would receive global exposure and recognition.
The NATHM was established in 1972 by the government with technical assistance of UNDP/ILO to produce skilled manpower in the hospitality and tourism industry. More that 30,000 persons have received training at the academy since it opened. The NATHM said that it was working to develop itself as a centre for excellence in the South Asian Region.
Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista Magar said the government was planning to develop a separate body to govern the institution to upgrade it into a centre for excellence.
“The improvements being planned for the NATHM are designed to help it gain global exposure in the hospitality sector and even attract international students,” Bista said. He added that the ministry had directed the concerned authority to finish the hotel by next year.
Meanwhile, various travel trade entrepreneurs and NATHM staff and students were honoured with various awards during the programme.
